Piece of poop
Monday, January 30th, 2006Time flies..
Thursday, January 19th, 2006I never really thought about what I would be doing when I was thirty years old. It always seemed like such a futuristic place to be. Even a half hour ago when I was twenty nine I really didn’t know. Now that it I am here it looks like I am blogging, listening to “Is this Love? by Whitesnake”, and flying from Stranglethorn Vale to Stormwind City to repair my toon’s armor (Christ I need a new hobby). So, yeah, this is definitely what I had in mind when I was twentyish…
This decidedly whirlwind of a night aside, I do have some stuff that I had hoped I would have when I was thirty; a great wife, a baby on the way, my health (which is debatable.. ;)) great family, great friends (most of which have been with me for at least 14 years now), a nice house, a career, and thirty blissful years of more mortgage debt than really sounds possible to ever pay back. Good times.
So, thirty, here I am. Let’s just hug and get this over with. If you’re anything like the twenties we’ll get along great.
Windows Media® Components for QuickTime
Thursday, January 12th, 2006Windows Media® Components for QuickTime are now available as a free download. Since they announced they are stopping the development of Windows Media Player for OS X (which is no major loss as of right now).
Actually, make that a Chicken Fried Rice..
Thursday, January 12th, 2006Apparently there’s a big push for green pigs in Taiwan. Personally I’m holding out for the pink cow.
OS X Software Update: 10.4.4
Tuesday, January 10th, 2006I installed the latest OSX update and I’ve been using it for a couple hours now. I have to say that at the very least Safari seems to render noticeably faster. Aside from that it seems as though some tasks use slightly less CPU (I’m a MenuMeters addict). Also I was having a really annoying time with finder where I would be in list mode, grab a file, and drag it down (or up) to a folder that wasn’t currently on the screen and nothing would happen. Now my window is scrolling up to the folder I am looking for. I had a weird feeling this was just something on my Mac.. but either way it is gone now.
All your Intel are belong to us!
Tuesday, January 10th, 2006Today was a big day for Apple which made it a big day for me in a very sad and nerdy way. There were a ton of new releases but the one I am most excited about it the new MacBook (I am not sure how I feel about the name) which has basically every possible component upgraded. My 17″ Powerbook has been a real work horse for the past 14 months but with some of the things I do I am noticing that I could use a pinch more power. For everyday tasks this laptop is more than adequate. If computers weren’t my lively hood and my laptop wasn’t my only machine I might have a fighting change of NOT picking one up. Since that’s not the case I plan to put my Powerbook up on Ebay and go from there when the new MacBooks hit the shelves sometime in February. I’m glad I have been saving my pennies. If you want to contribute to my MacBook fund you know where to find me. ;)
It could be 31% worse..
Tuesday, January 10th, 2006I took the World of Warcraft addiction test.. it turns out I am well on my way to being addicted! Complete results after the jump..
Mac Software: AppZapper
Friday, January 6th, 2006
The folks over at TUAW turned me on to an application for the Mac that I had been looking for called AppZapper. Not that a name like that needs any explaination, but it’s a great little program for uninstalling the rest of the crap that is created and left behind even after you uninstall an application. For those non Mac folks, to install a Mac program you just drag it where you want it (like the applications folder) and run it. When you’re done you just drag it to the trash (no add/remove programs crap like in Windows). While this is nice and easy your preference files and some support files are usually left behind. I assume this is in case you decide to re-install the application everything will be how you left it. With AppZapper instead of dragging it to the Trash you can drag it to this lightweight application and it will take the rest of the files with it! Check it out if you’re a mac user! This one is going on my “must have” list.
Holy Fast Download
Friday, January 6th, 2006I was downloading an OSX Update from Apple tonight (long story I might detail later). I can’t believe how fast it was going! 1MB/second! Check it out:

Holy Crap the DLR Show Sucks!
Tuesday, January 3rd, 2006I’m a Stern Fan. I’ve listened to him for a long time and have two Sirius radios ready to go. I am also a David Lee Roth fan (from Van Halen back in the day) so I decided it wouldn’t hurt me to give it a whirl. I woke up this morning, dusted off my open mind, threw it on and turned on the radio. Within about five minutes I realized that the morning FM radio in Boston is now completely void of anything to listen to. This show is an absolute train wreck. He’s gone from yelling random lyrics and playing a few cords over horrible songs, to talking to people about bringing up children, to talking about how much attitude he has (where the hell is it?!), to talking to Uncle Manny; a 95 year old guy who apparently has a lot of nothing to talk about. Is there a band in there with him? At least he brought his “own collection of music” and has the ability to “play whatever he wants whenever he wants”. That will help.
Good Lord. This is painful. At least I’m not the only one who thinks so..
