When I was first looking for a phone that could handle all of my “on the go” needs I decided that for the money the T-Mobile Sidekick II would be the best way to go. I could get unlimited data for $29.95 a month. This was way cheaper than the unlimited PDA plan that Cingular was carrying at the time of something like $79.99 a month. I went with a Sidekick II and T-Mobile off of Amazon and ended up buying the phone for $199.00 with $250.00 in rebates (I was up $50.00! sounded good at the time..)
Within a week of signing up for T-Mobile there was an incident that made me lose confidence in them. It only got worse and over the next month I got sick of the scketchy coverage, there were scandals, and botched upgrades. I decided that enough was enough and I was going to drop T-Mobile. After a couple of days of dealing with Customer Service I decided to bail even though they weren’t going to let me out of the contract without the silly Early Termination Fee of $200. I promptly put my phone up on Ebay and sold it for $209.24 which put me right back where I started with Cingular and my trusty old T616. The problem was now that I had a taste of life with a cell that had email and IM I wanted to get a new phone. When I realized that Cingular had dropped their PDA Unlimited rates and started carrying the Treo 650 I went for it. I can’t wait to get my hands on the the 650!
So, what is the lesson here? T-Mobile bites (in my opinion).
