Brought to you buy the people trying to ruin the life of single guys everywhere is a story I caught off of Engadget today. Virgin Mobile is introducing a service to help keep you from drunk dialing by entering the phone number into a database where it will remain locked until 6:00AM the next morning. Now, if Geoge could upload his entire address book the people of Savannah would sleep a lot better when Rob was in town.

Adds useful information to the menubar in OS X. I love it.

I had the chance to use a G5 for awhile lately and I was blown away by how snappy the machine felt. From watching the counters between my machine and the G5 I realized that it was disk access that was slowing down my Powerbook more than the processor. When I got my machine I didn’t bother to upgrade the hard drive to the 5400RPM drive. At the time the price didn’t seem worth it. I started poking around to see if there were any drive upgrades for the Powerbook that appealed to me. I had noticed over the past few months that everytime I upgraded a machine with a 7200RPM 8MB Cache Hardrive I felt a noticible improvement in the machine’s “snappyness”. I came across the Other World Computing website. There was a 60GB Hitachi 7200RPM 8MB 9mm ATA6 drive. I installed it this weekend and rebuilt my system. I have to tell you that I can absolutely tell the difference. The Powerbook is more responsive and just feels “as quick as it should be” ™. I highly recommend this upgrade for anyone thinking of eeking a little more performance out of their trusty Powerbook. The only downside (if you consider it one) is that it is slightly louder than the original drive. You’ll notice more of a whir coming from the PB than before, but nothing that would make me change my mind. I figured this might be the case seeing how it’s spinning at almost twice the sweet of the old drive! While I was rebuilding my machine I came across a great post that has a bunch of excellent OS X software on it. I’ve started using a few of the programs already! You’ll notice a Mac Software section to the linkblog.

There’s nothing like being woken up in the morning by three bright flashes followed by a boom at 4:00AM in the morning. Very odd.. I called the police to let them know and to be quite honest they didn’t seem nearly as concerned as I was. Oh well, now I can’t fall asleep so I decided to geek out for awhile before it’s time to put the turkey in. I love Thanksgiving! It is such a good holiday when you think about it: family and friends combined with food, booze, and football. It’s really hard to mess that one up. So today when you sit down to eat make sure you give thanks for everything you have and especially to them men and women of the armed forces that are probably having a decidedly less peaceful Thanksgiving today than we are. One more thing on that note. I’ve been meaning to update my Veterans Day blog because at the time I forgot (and I’m embarassed to admit this) a good friend of mine that was in the Army. George, Thank You. I know it was shitty of me to leave you out of that post.. and I’m sorry.

Anyone who’s been around me a long time has probably heard me discuss (complain) about the price of bottled water among versus that of Soda. Seriously, think about this for a minute. How does WATER cost more than a product with ingredients and a supposed secretly guarded secret formula. I’m thinking there’s no cost to guarding the ingredients of water. OK, so I’m a little too wrapped up in this. That being said, there’s a guy who has a blog entry that’s more in depth than my soda v. water rants. Something tells me this is one of the old things I’ll be rambling on about in a nursing home at some point. Check it out, it’s a good read . I especially like the comparison of a Microwave and an Ink Jet cartridge.

Like most of you I�ve been wondering lately where I can hear more of Vertigo by U2. The 25 minute rotation on the radio and Apple iPod commercials just haven�t been enough for me. Thankfully, to the rescue comes Jack Knife Lee with the first remix of Vertigo. Thank god I will be able to hear more Vertigo in a slightly worse ecstasy induced version of its original self.

I watched most of the Surreal Life this season and initially I thought Ryan Star was hot. But, after awhile, I started to think I might have been wrong on my initial call. Especially after hearing her on Stern the other day.. Does anyone else think she’s, like, asexual? I get no hot chick vibe from her what so ever. I can appreciate a belly shirt, etc.. but man.. something is missing. Apparently I’m bothered enough about this to make an entry.. disturbing.

I’ve had a 15″ Powerbook for about 8 months now and I am absolutely an Apple convert. It’s the best computing experience out there.. hands down. Anyway, I found that I don’t really leave my desk that often. So, I don’t exactly have a need to have a laptop. It’s convient and insanely cool to have a computer that Powerful in such a small package. That being said there’s something about a dual 64-bit G5 processor system that appeals to the inner nerd in me. And we all know how strong that inner nerd is. So, I’m going to be using just the G5 for the next couple of weeks to see how I like it! Read more if you want to see some sexy pictures..
