It’s too early to be up on Vacation

Wednesday, July 28th, 2004

It’s just too early to be up on vacation! After my sunburn experience I went to be early last night and then got up at 6:00AM this morning. I was going to head out and get the paper and a coffee, but I got weird vibes about becoming an old man so I decided to stay home and listen to Stern while drinking a Coke. A decidedly NOT old man thing to do. I’m glad I stayed home because I got to see a kick ass thunderstorm that came through this morning! :)

Sunburns are a hassle..

Tuesday, July 27th, 2004

The weather has been excellent here on the island. I’m not sure what the weathermen are smoking but they haven’t hit the forecast yet! We went to the beach today for awhile. I used sunscreen but I still managed to get burned on the tops of my feet and knees. What the hell is up with that? I can’t think of a more annoying place to get a burn. When I wear shoes my feet hurt and when I wear shorts my knees hurt. So, unless I walk around in short shorts without shoes on I’m constantly annoyed. And let’s be honest, no one needs to see me in that wardrobe. :)

Off to the Vineyard!

Friday, July 23rd, 2004

It’s time for my vacation to Martha’s Vineyard! I need a vacation in a bad way with everything that’s been going on at work . I guess the fact that I haven’t had a vacation since my honeymoon in October of last year doesn’t help much either! :) I should have internet access with my cellphone so you may see a few posts from me! Have a good week at work.. suckers!

Let’s get a postin’!

HI! Even though I’m looking for a new job that’s not a good enough reason to stop the information flow on Bamboolounge. I’ll come up with some other website if I need to show “the man” I know what I’m doing. :) Welcome back!

Well, I know that the song Hot For Teacher will be completely overplayed during the ensuing media frenzy but I’m going to jump on it now before you get sick of it. The latest pictures of Debra Lafave have surfaced on the net and I must say that as a 14 year old boy I would be Hot For Teacher as well. Hell, as a 28 year old man I would say that I was hot for teacher, if I didn’t have a hot teacher of my own of course. Now I know everyone is talking about how disgusting it is and I agree completely. I just think this 14 year old boy has lived the fantasy of many young teenagers with one major exception: his 15 year old cousin was always around. Creepy. The real question is how long until her husband cashes in and goes the Rick Soloman route? I figure you don’t pose in a bikini on a motorocyle and not have a couple of videos floating around… at least it will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I need to clean up my desk..

Monday, July 5th, 2004

After spending most of last weekend working on my Wi-Fi detection projects I figured it was time to clean up my desk today. I got sidetracked halfway through.. so now only the left half is clean. I’ll get to the right side at some point. I would take a picture to show you, but my half assed cleaning isn’t very impressive.

I’ve been using a combination of KisMAC on OS X and KisMET on Linux to poke around. The interface to KisMAC is excellent. Here’s a screenshot of it spending sometime looking for networks from my house.

I got an Orinoco Card with extneral antenna on Satuday that I had ordered off Ebay. I tried using it briefly but it hosed up my laptop. Turns out I had to repatch the orinoco.c and orinoco_cs.c drivers for my kernel and load them in. I’ve been thinking that I should add commands to this blog so I can remember what I did when I come across it again. So boring for everyone though.. so I’ll decide on that another time.

My next investment will be a GPS that can hook into the computer so I can load the data into a mapping program and publish the open spots in the area. I know you’re thinking “why?”; and honestly, I have no idea. I’ve always been fascinated by over the air communications, from RC Cars to CB Radios, it’s something that I enjoy. I’ve been thinking that on my road trips this summer I may bring my stuff.. I’m also interested in these WiFi Mesh networks that have been popping up. I’ll post more on those another time and what I might do to get into that (like you care).

Beep Beep!

So, we got a new mower last weekend thanks to my Father and I finally downloaded the pictures from Carolyn’s test run (here and here). I tightened a couple of bolts, fixed the steering, and got a new blade. It’s like a brand new mower! Runs great and has brought the total lawn mowing time down from 2 hours to 1 hour. Excccccellent.
